Re: [RC] An innocient question for barefoot ENDURANCE horses' riders - heidi

QUESTION: How long/far can you ride your barefoot endurance horse,
supposing you're not using boots very often or not at all, before the
hoof is worn away to the point of lameness?

There is no one answer to that question--and as Karen said, it isn't just
the hoof wearing away that is of concern, but also the sole. Since horses
vary considerably in the quality of their feet, and since the degree to
which the feet are conditioned to the terrain also comes into play, the
answer to that question ranges from not very far at all to being able to
do occasional endurance rides on terrain that is foot-friendly.
