Re: [RC] [RC] What Bill Said - Juli JakubI know I am a newbie, but that is not how I understood Howard's comments. He did not say 100's are abusive...he said risk increases. I think that is true...just like risk increases when you go up a level in eventing, jumps are bigger, courses are longer, dressage tests are harder...therefore more risk of something happening. It makes sense to me that no matter how well trained and conditioned a horse is there is more risk in jumping a 4 foot fence than jumping a 2'6" fence. You try to lessen that risk with training and conditioning, but it still is a four foot fence, not a crossrail. Small mistakes can have bigger meaning when the jumps go up. I think that this would be true in endurance as well. Longer distance means more of a chance that a little mistake can get out of control. It makes common sense. But I don't think Howard meant abusive, I thought he just meant as you go up in levels, risk increases. This is true in ALL horse disciplines...even dressage. Higher level means more collected work and harder moves....that equals more chance for a lameness injury than if trucking around in training level. I hope to do 100's someday. I do not think they are abusive, but I do not fool myself in anyway...I will be taking a greater risk with myself and my horse when I do them just like I took a bigger risk in competeing intermediate level as opposed to novice level in eventing.

Juli Jakub

The Air of Heaven is that which blows between a horse's ears.

~ arabian proverb

You think that 100s are abusive to horses and that 25s are "safe".
