   With all due respect to you all: I have probably judged more LD BCs than 
anyone else and I have always thought it fair to them to judge the top ten 
just like the other distances. It does take time which the rider deserves if 
he or she finishes in the top ten. I dont think it takes away from the 
finishers in the other distances or gets in the way of them either. I enjoy 
vetting rides and the LD riders always help pay our fees which allows me to 
continue vetting rides. You riders sound like the other horse clubs always 
bitching about something that doesnt mean squat.

I'd suspect I'm probably in your ballpark in terms of the number of LD
BCs that I've judged--and like you, I've never found it to be odious,
difficult, or deleterious to the sport.  It is a matter of jotting down
one's findings a bit more thoroughly for the front runners--and as I've
said before, it is a good opportunity to educate those going faster as
to how well they are taking care of their horses.
