[RC] spooking, another perspective - winsumjo

My mare is a good spooker, she will be going along nice and relaxed and boom
she goes from point A to point B and I am still at point A on the ground. I
had always wanted to learn to drive a cart, so last winter a neighbor taught
my mare to drive. She loves it and guess what, she doesn't spook driving
the cart. Could be the blinkers block out her peripheral vision, the shafts
keep her body in a straight line, and I'm so new to driving that I was
focused down the trail making sure the cart could get thru safely. So a
light dawned and I decided I could keep her straight between my hands and
legs when I ride, and focus down the trail. It works, I always thought she
did better at a competition, not hardly spooking, but then decided it was
because I was more focused, after all we are looking ahead to find ribbons
to stay on trail. Now she does still spook occasionally, but they are minor
and I am ready with a leg to keep her from going sideways very far. Plus
driving gives her another job that she seems to really enjoy. Louise and
