I have been reading some of the stuff about LD and whether it should be
included as a "real" endurance ride. Obviously it is not LONG distance but how
about taking into consideration all the people who would like to be somewhat
competitive but are either too stretched by family or work to condition a 50 or
100 miler. How about those who physically are not capable of 50 + rides. Are
they just to be left hanging? The entry fees are not that much different from
the longer rides. AERC gets the same fees.
When you read the ride stats from back east, the number of LD riders is
impressive. LD rides are popular enough that groups who sponsor rides could
put on an LD ride by itself without a 50 or longer. 50 and 100 milers should
think of someone besides themselves and remember that some of the LD riders
will advance to the longer rides. Don't look down on LDs.
