Awesome, so on the ride I didn't get a completion on by going over the 6
hour limit would still let me show for BC ....just kidding, Judy, but we do have a 6 hour
limit in LD and at that ride (Holly's and my first) she was so concerned about
the 'other riders in the woods' that you could hear but not see she stood like a
stump for about 20 minutes refusing to move no matter what because she was SURE
someone was coming up behind us and wanted to wait for them - understand this
was about 4 miles from the finish line and time was ticking away (obviously WE
weren't going for any speed records!)LOLOL>>..well, ok I WASN'T laughing
that day at all and it was all I could do to keep my fury at bay...then there
was a benevolent 50 miler, looking fresh as a daisy after 40+ miles that finally
came along and let us tag along with her so we could at least get in...otherwise
I'd probably STILL be standing in that field waiting on her to move her stupid
feet
Suzi and my awesome girl whom I love dearly enough to have kept her after
this one..
While we're on the subject of Limited Distance, I thought I
would respond to Melissa Ribley's letter to EN about not offering BC on
LD's. I agree that we should not encourage racing on LD's, but I feel
that there has to be some way to reward the conscientious rider and
well-conditioned horse. One idea is to offer BC to anyone who wants
to show for it regardless of placing. You could offer time penalties
not only for going too slow, but for going too fast, kind of like NATRC.
Say, a penalty for anyone faster than five hours and slower than seven
hours. The course could be handicapped for optimum times. That way it
could be fair for all. And the superior horse and rider could be
rewarded. And a horse who gets a lot of BC's at LD would be
encouraged to move up to 50's. Just an idea.
