Re: [RC] tendonitus in the rider - Karen Sullivan

My daughter, competitive swimmer, got tendonitis in her elbow after too much
weight lifting her senior year of high school; plus the swimming. I haul
her down to doctor....prognosis is rest, rest, stop the activity that is
causing the pain...do the ice, rest, ibuprofin, etc......she did stop the
weight lifting but kept swimming as critical year (she was trying to make
college swim team)....elbow was bad 6 months.....sounded like turning into
chronic tendonitis and permanent damage......but I guess now (into college
swim season, somehow she is getting along okay swimming 5 hours a day; I
need details...)

Everyone is different, however as a Mom I am and was still worried....I
would forget the d#*m coaches right now and haul her off to good sports med
doctor....get pro. opinion.....
Karen

So what exactly is tendonitus? My 15 year old daughter (Josie so this is
endurance related >g<) is having lots of pain in her elbow after volleyball
season and now shooting 3's in basketball is painful for her. The coaches
keep working her steady and she's in pain. I'm wondering whether to put my
foot down and rest her (if I do she'll probably lose her position but that's
better than losing her mobility!) Honestly, these coaches couldn't keep a
horse going through one season of endurance. Time off is something that just
doesn't happen. By the way, she's suffering from shin splints too. I think
maybe she needs to retire to...um...just riding! :-)
