Re: [RC] Please delete replies! No thanks but this could be controversial - Diane Trefethen

Many of the responses do not make sense when there is only a reply. That makes one have to go back and find the other emails on the subject.
Anyone following a thread will know what a response is referring to if it includes a line or two from the most recent post. Any more verbiage than that is shear laziness on the respondent's part

If you need more space get a yahoo email account.
Hmmm... reminds me of old queen Marie.

Often, I am reading emails a week after it is posted. Other options for this are to use Outlook Express and have your emails placed into a folder.
Instead of everyone else accommodating your, possibly unavoidable, reading emails a week late, why don't YOU set up folders in YOUR mailbox with the titles of threads you find interesting and then set your filters to route any email containing that subject to the appropriate folder. As time passes, you can easily rename any folder and then redefine any filter to match. You say you can't know ahead of time what an interesting thread will be? Route all Ridecamp emails to a folder called Ridecamp, rename and redefine as above when you DO see an interesting thread, and then run your newly edited filter on folder Ridecamp. Now all the pertinent emails will be in the same folder. Very efficient.

It is always easier to just hit reply and have a default of "include original message in reply" than to edit a message and include just a line or two, but that costs more money for every system that handles the email. Remember, not all of us are interested in the same threads, but we ALL pay for the excessive verbiage.
