As someone who rides a stallion, I don't think that you can judge how the horse 
will act in a group based upon when he was gelded.  I ride in mixed groups all 
of the time, and a lot of folks don't realize Shaba is a stallion unless I tell 
them (which I usually make a point of doing, just as a courtesy).  On the other 
hand, I have seen geldings and mares that had major attitude problems.  I think 
it has to do more with 1. the horse's personality to begin with and 2. how he 
has been trained to interact w/ other horses, rather than if he is gelded 
early, gelded late, or not gelded at all........ride your horse in a group, and 
then make a decision............
