So, does this mean if you give probiotics and electrolytes at the same
time, the salt kills the probiotics?  Or if they are mixed together, how
 long do you have before the probiotics die and not benefit your horse?

I certainly don't have any numbers--but consider that gargling with salt
water is a reasonably effective means of killing bacteria causing sore
throats, etc.  It all depends on the concentration of the e-lyte solution
and the tolerance of the individual bacteria involved.  But think SHORT
times (minutes) vs. long times (hours or days).

Additionally, the problem would continue in the gut until the e-lytes are
diluted/absorbed and become isotonic with the "concentration" in living
cells.
