I can vouch for Cool-Offs, western bandanas lined with synthetic chamois 
material.  Soak one and tie it around your neck, and it will keep you cool 
for about 3 hours.  Also, there are "cookies", oval pieces of the chamois 
that you can soak and put inside your helmet; they will keep your head cool. 
I've ridden in the desert with the temp over 100 F and the Cool-Offs are a 
life-saver.
