Re: [RC] [RC] poison oak - Zanfel - Lucy Chaplin Trumbull

Nancy

I feel your pain - I was trail trimming two
weekends ago while riding in shorts. Brushing
twigs/leaves off my saddle, I managed to liberally
self-infect the backs of my legs with PO <sigh>.

Because we live in prime PO country, every year
we go through about 4-5 tubes of Zanfel:
http:\\www.zanfel.com.

It's a sort of gritty wash that you use like soap
and then rinse off after rubbing it on the affected
areas for a minute or two (and you will adore that
scritchy minute, believe me <g>).

It washes the oil off your skin and stops the itching
either permanently or for about 8 hours, depending
on how sensitive you are. I'm fairly sensitive and
usually end up treating myself morning and evening
for about 2-3 days. But at least the itch is gone
between treatments. It can be used on "delicate
areas".

Occasionally I've gone systemic and it still works -
you just end up taking a lot of showers and going
through a lot of Zanfel.

One word of warning so you have a cardiac arrest in
the store - it isn't cheap, but works, so is worth it.
And it does the job without the weird possible side-
effects of cortisone. Plus you just buy it from the
drug store and don't have to book yourself in with
the Dr.

Also worth mentioning as a preventive - use Technu
to clean your skin after possible contact.

And we use Fels-Naptha to wash any possibly infected
clothing (that comes off and goes straight in the
laundry as we come in the back door).
