Re: [RC] cost sharing to rides - Chris Paus

Yup. The driver/owner has the liability, the insurance, the vehicle maintenance, the clean up after the ride......So far, I've been pretty lucky when sharing rides. My driver and I have swapped who pays at the pump. I pay for one fillup, she gets the next, etc. It usually works out that I've paid for one more fillup than she, and I always pay the camping or parking fee, tolls etc. Now that I have my own rig, She did the same with me when I had the comfy rig.

This spring I hauled a rider and she paid for my entry fee to reimburse me. It worked out to be a little more than the fuel would have cost, so it was a fair swap.

This something that is going to become more common with the higher fuel prices
What do people think is fair.
I have always done 2/3 fuel to the companion and 1/3 fuel to the person supplying the rig.
I have had riders think this is terrible. That they should only pay 1/2 the fuel BUT my transmission just went on my truck and I am now paying $3500 CAD to put it back on the road.
It costs BIG bucks to keep a rig running in maintance, tires, insurance and cleaning.
I also had to buy the rig in the first place.
