Re: [RC] Cost to riders/AERC fees/the BoD - Diane Trefethen

I remember the rise in rates too and was very angry about it, not because of the rise itself (we needed the money) but because it was inequitous - and still is. An individual membership costs $65 while a "family" member costs only $10 with the only requirement to be a family member that (s)he have the same mailing address as the primary. If you belong to a country club or college or university club, a reduced rate for family members makes sense because the organization's additional expense for those memebers in negligible. But with AERC, all the record keeping costs just as much for each family member as it does for the primary. Since the stated cost of EN for non-members is $40/year, and I am sure that $40 is more than the actual cost for EN, I believe the additional cost for family members should be at LEAST the $25 difference. Heck, even Juniors pay $35/year. Turn that around and charge family members $35 and Juniors ON THEIR OWN HOOK AND PAYING THE DUES THEMSELVES, $10. That would make more sense. Afterall, do ride managers charge one member of a family an $80 entry fee and $10 or $15 for each additional rider with the same address? Not hardly.

Angie, is this true? BoD members are not allowed to ask their constituents their opinions on pending issues? That is total Bullsh** ! How can you possibly represent your region if you can't elicit the riderships' opinion?
