RE: [RC] Cost to riders/AERC fees/the BoD - bobmorris

Actually John, the research grants that have been made in
the past have no affect on the 2006 budget. Research Grants
are based on surplus from two years prior. i.e. 2006 grant
monies are a percentage of excess funds (income - expenses =
surplus) from 2004. Actually a very small amount when it
comes to research programs. They have no affect on the
budget projection.

Yes, the Board of Directors has looked into the raising of
fees to
cover what could be a discrepancy in the budget this year.

Here are some facts:
1.) the AERC has not raised membership fees in a decade
while improving services to members like the wonderful EN,
the yearbook, the record keeping and online services. How
many organizations can say that?
2.) Rider fees have not gone up in many years- that is
the fee that
ride managers pay to the AERC per rider for record keeping,
office
support, EN, and ride INSURANCE among other things. The
insurance is a
BIG DEAL, which as of 2004, has been provided to ride
managers at no
additional expense.

It should be clearly pointed out that a budget shortfall (if
indeed there is one??) might have been expected - simply
looking at the amount of grant moneys AERC has let out over
the past 24 months. in excess of $?? (I'm thinking about
$200k or so - or is that to high a number?).

Were there discussions re: curtailing the grants in any way?
or is only solution path a revenue increase rather than an
expenditures decrease approach??
