[RC] hoof advice - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

Have much appreciated this list - finally learned what my black and mostly
white paint mare has from y'all (scratches) so am hoping for more more wisdom
(along with the humour-loved that elephant post) Anyhoo, I have a QH mare who
came to me with a small crack in her hoof - dead center on. My farrier has
been trying for a year to heal it but in actuality it has only gotten worse -
it now runs all the way up to the coronet. He's shod her in ways to alleviate
the pressure, he banged a wedge up high to help the new growth come in clean, I
guess. I have used crack sealers and all kinds of applications. She's on
platinum plus supplement. I have tried biotin in the past but now wonder if I
used enough - the products range from 6 mg to 22 mgs of it. Big difference in
amounts there. I see boots advertised for treating cracked hooves - is this
what we should be doing for her? Any ideas - I am all eyes. Thanks very much..
Diane, OK
