[RC] Hypo thyroid question - Nancy Cox

I had an endurance horse several years ago that developed hypo thyroidism.
Was told it was RARE then. The medication kept his levels up and he
continued to race and won some rides. Sold the horse, not sure if he is
still on the medication, he was when we sold him.

Now I have a horse, that hasn't been raced, he is 10 and had lost weight on
his top line, so I had the vet check for thyroid, he was sure that wasn't
the problem because it is so RARE. He was so low it wasn't measurable. The
vet was stunned.

I will now start him on Thyro L.

Has anyone else our there had experience with this? What are the causes??

Nancy
