[RC] OT-spray bottle problem - Carolyn Burgess

Christina:

We had a horse at our barn that behaved just like
yours. So we filled the spray bottle with water and
got him used to it. We then refilled it with fly
spray, and since he was now used to the water filled
bottle, she stood relatively quietly for the first few
sprays and then started stomping and being very
uncooperative. We then noticed his legs starting to
swell up like balloons (we started on the legs and
gradually worked up to his head). They were hot to
the touch. We got out the hose and completely hosed
this horse for about 20 minutes until the heat was out
of his legs and he seemed to be relaxed. Turned out
this horse had either an allergic reaction or a
chemical sensitivity to most fly sprays. Before you
continue with the spray bottle lesson, put some fly
spray on a sponge and wipe it on him to see if it is
the fly spray that is the problem, not the delivery
method.
