My horse does weight lifting every time I ride him.

Would it?  According to Dr. Hilary Clayton strenght training the horse is
possible and even desireable.  She say "Gradients are the foundation of
equine strength training."  (that's hill work)

Also she say "A gradual downhill gradient is useful for strength training"
and "The use of gymnastic jumping for strength training"
