RE: [RC] ?correct that horses "keep their acquired fitness"? - Steph Teeter

I read a paper once describing research on thoroughbreds - they analized
fitness level (I think it was based upon mitochondrial density, or some
similar cellular activity) on horses kept in stalls, and found that it was
three weeks before they identified significant decline in this particular
parameter.

Field trialer here.Some time back,some Ridecamp posters espoused the
concept that unlike humans,horses maintain an acquired fitness level for a
long time without continually performing the amount of work that got them to
that point.Too good to be true? I must admit that this is something I have
bought into to salve my conscience re the "weekend warrior" regime that I
impose on Chico the Rebel (and myself).It(seems)to be true-Chico has pretty
much been tireless,no matter what.Comments?
