Re: [RC] Feeding in Extremely Cold Weather - R & M Dorchester

Hi Barbara,

WARNING: Never ask a Canadian about the weather. We love to talk about
it and now without hockey, it?s become our national past time!

I live in northern Alberta, Canada.

0C is 32F. I believe the scales meet at -40. This is not normal
weather for us at all. Our normal high for this time of year is about
-9C which is about 16F . We typically get lots of sunshine, although
at this time of year we only have about 9-91/2 hours of daylight per
day. We almost never get freezing rain and consider ourselves lucky
that we don't live some where like Halifax or Maryland <g> where that
happens all the time.

This has been a strange winter for us. Last week we had -38C with wind
that brought the temp to -45C (also unusual),then it warmed up to near
freezing and today it's -20 with a bit of wind again. (That kind of
weather is hard on man and beast alike). I'm blaming El Nino.

To make this relevant to RC:
I will ride to -20C (with no wind) but at that temp all we do is walk.
I do train in the winter, just at the warmer temps.

Mary-Anne

Fascinating messages, but where do you live, Mary-Anne, that you
read the
temps in C, and how does it translate into F???
