Re: [RC] [RC] Odd gait on my new horse.. - Allegra CYep. He has done a single-foot too. Definitely not it. There seem to be several different varieties of racks, so it could be one of them.
My aunt thought it was just a really fast trot, but my mum having a better view said, "Nope he's gaiting."
I had to explain that there was no diagonal, so I couldn't post. I couldn't sit it though because of the way his hind legs were moving. (Like a cavalry trot.) So I ended up in a two point for quite a while. I think it will smooth out as he muscles up. (He's just turning four, so he hasn't had any conditioning riding done on him.)
I plan on starting light conditioning, ok my version of light, August 6th to get him ready for Camp Bob at the end of August. (Just a poker run and horsing around, not any thing difficult.) Usually only takes a couple of hours to finish, if no one steals the signs this year.
I'll probally keep it lighter for most of the remainder of 2005, then start some heavier conditioning in the spring. (Which means no endurance rides this year, or most of next year. Bummer.) He is a suspected late baby and I don't want to push any thing. Hopefully next year we can do Shore to Shore and see how he handles that. I've got allot of hope for him turning into my endurance horse.
