Re: [RC] re: Guest remarks about dogs and children - Barbara McCrary

I love children at ride camp. The only time I didn't was when a toddler started across the "raceway" and there were two horses coming Hell-bent-for-leather for the finish line. I ran out, grabbed the toddler and pulled out just in time. She must have been about 2 or 3. Whew! Another time, parents who were riding brought their small kids with ponies. While the parents were riding, the kiddies took off on their ponies, followed the tracks (flagging had been pulled by the drag riders) and rode the 30-mile loop 'way up in Big Basin Park - very remote. We had the sheriff out looking, my brother-in-law out flying his plane, looking. The kids finally arrived just short of dark. What an adventure....they weren't concerned at all; the adults were!
I just took entries from two of our grandkids, ages 15 and 12, who are going to ride the 75 in August. The third generation of endurance riders coming along.........

Well, I sure feel better now! I thought I was in a ****** mood until I
read her post. Holy Smoke. There are really good drugs available now.
Seriously, I love dogs. However, I have lots of friends that allow their
dogs to run loose in camp-trying to eat food off other people's plates,
bothering horses, barking at night, and worst sin of all, peeing on
people's hay! That really irritates me and I don't appreciate it at all.
On the other hand, I do understand that sometimes our pets need to go with
us. Just, please, think about others. Most people are very courteous.
As for your children...PLEASE bring them to rides. Please enter them in
rides. They are our future. They are part of our extended endurance
family. Just keep them out of the horse's water tank! Cindy
