[RC] Proof of Ownership - Amy Cieri

I lost my horses at the No Frills ride in Ft. Valley VA in 1997. There wasn't any sign of them for days so I started calling auctions to see if they had been brought in. The answer was the same at each auction, "we've got a lot of chestnut mares here, any distinct markings?" I decided I never want to hear that again so I opted to brand even though it isn't a common thing here in PA. After many months of trying to get a professional to brand my horse I just went and did it myself.
First I contacted my Dept. of Ag and they sent me the forms to register my personal brand. It was approved by the state of PA, a custom brand maker in South Dakota made the brand and I applied it. Process was very simple and the results are good. The state sent me 2 copies of my registered brand. The brand can be transferred to the new owner if I ever sell the horse but I retain all rights to applying that brand to my animals.
After going through such a horrible experience I want something visible on my horse.
The horses were found 6 days later stuck in boulders. Brand wouldn't have helped them but there are certainly many times where it may.
