Re: [RC] Heart Murmur - rdcarrie If the vet says not to worry about it, then I wouldn't worry. My now-19 year old gelding has a pretty loud murmur. I first learned about it at from P&R person at a ride about 3 years ago. It's not always there (comes and goes), but usually is present. It's never caused him any trouble.

He has never had one before, and the vet told me that it was common for horses to sometimes have one when they get around age 16/17 (he is 16). Has anyone come across this, and is there anything you can do about it? Also, does this affect riding him at all? We currently do 50s and I am working him up to 100s. Would this be a reason to pull him ever? The vet said it is worth noting on his vet card at the start, but would not necessarily be a pull reason. Thanks Lauretta and Shaba (there is nothing about me that is a murmur. Anything I do is heard LOUD and CLEAR....will this mean I have to cut back on the Hostess Fruit Pies?>??) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
