[RC] Hakim story - Florac - Lucy Chaplin Trumbull

Lucie:
I recently tried to read the results of the ride at Florac, France. When I open up the site there is a "pop-up" that refers to a Tragic incident that pertained to a horse "Hakim". That's about all I can figure out. 2 questions, What does this popup say and is this the Horse that "won" the WEC in Dubai this year?

I'll give this a go (french rusty, though). Very sad story.

Press Release LOZERE ENDURANCE EQUESTRE Les « 160 Km de Florac

On Saturday, around 7pm, riders alerted "les cibistes" (?) that Maurice Saint had pulled out on the course between Col de Montmirat and the finish, and that he was walking in, leading his horse about 6 km out. He wanted the help of the treatment vet.

He also asked for assistance from Association members via
motorcycle.

A motorcycle went out on the course and ran into Maurice Saint,
on foot, alone. Maurice explained to the motorcyclist that when
he went to unsaddle Hakim, the horse slipped into a ravine.

The motorcyclist took Maurice Saint back to the site of the
accident, 1 km further up the course, at km-14 of the last loop.

Upon arrival at the site, the motorcyclist stated that Hakim
had fallen a considerable distance (12 meters - 40 feet) and
that the horse was in a desperate state.

The vet arrived shortly afterwards and applied first aid
and organised further help. He asked the motorcyclist to
return and fetch water, emergency personnel and someone
to help Maurice Saint. (?)

A little while afterwards, a dozen people, as well as some
people from the village, were able to manipulate the horse
under orders from the vet.

Taking into account the state of Hakim, and at the request of
the owner, the decision was taken to euthanize the horse around
9pm.

Maurice Saint was helped to his hotel. The horse's body (?)
was taken to a secure location around 10:30 pm.

All the members of the Lozère Endurance Equestre send
their condolences to Maurice Saint, his team and the
endurance family.

Adieu Hakim.
