Re: [RC] Anyone tried a Myler combination bit? - Chris Paus

bitless bridles can be great, but don't be surprised if your horse goes beautifully in it when going out alone, but steers like a barge at an endurance ride.

Remember, bitless bridles are not pressureless pieces of equipment. Instead of pressure on the mouth, they exert it at the poll. My horse had to have some serious chiropractic work done after I tried riding him in one at a CTR. He had been fine with it at home.

Now the bitless is a training tool I use for younguns like starting them in a sidepull. When they are ready, I move them up to a snaffle.

I may have one for sale.  It is a COMFORT SNAFFLE, and it does have a 4" shank and is 4 3/4" wide  (but they run big - normally I use a 5")   I went trail riding Saturday and my mare has issues with anything in her mouth.  I rode in the Clinton Anderson hackmore halter and she did great - and we went through mud, grog and water, of which she hates all of it!    I am now trying out a bitless bridle.   I figure, why stress her out when I can go bitless?

My tackstore lets people rent bits to see if they like them.  Try to do that before you shell out all that cash.
