Re: [RC] Electrolytes - as a supplement - Joe LongOn Sun, 26 Jun 2005 18:44:42 -0500, "Rae Callaway" <tallcarabians@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: Can someone explain to me why giving electrolytes as a daily supplement is a good idea? I can't, because I don't think it is a good idea. All horses need to have basic salts available, and for that I use a commercial salt block that you can buy at any feed store. Some people prefer free-choice loose salt, but I want them to work for it a bit so they tend to ingest less (only what they really need). I may be way off base, but I feel that not using additional supplements helps condition the horses to conserve electrolytes better, an advantage on ride day. -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxx http://www.rnbw.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
