Re: [RC] OUCH - Karla Watson

Had a ride vet up here who doesn't do more than just this one ride, pull a BIG scab off my friends horse leg at the vet in! Made it bleed cause it was not ready to come off but it was healed enough to be fine for the ride if he didn't pull the scab off! Of course the horse was tender after that. I didn't know if that was against the AERC rules and didn't know to make a stink or not. Is that against the rules?

Good one Angie.

We (Joel, Joni and myself) have a name for "those vets".   We call them "The Diggy Vets".

It seems that they are wanting to see how deep into the meat they can insert their fingers.
And you are right, we have, and I am sure other do to, have to try and arrange so that we can go to other vets in the vet line.  Not that is happens in the SE a lot, but there are times.

a bad habit of digging in with their fingertips. FLAT hand, firm
pressure. We do want to know if our horse's back is sore. We don't want
to know if you have a good enough grip to put a horse that's never been
ridden on the ground. :-)
