[RC] ID card and brand inspection - Truman Prevatt

With all this bickering over brand inspection, deputy Barney, the US constitution and all, I went down and pulled out my Coggins card. It identifies the horse, breed and me as the owner. It has three pictures on it. On the back it identifies itself as an official document under FL law - giving the law and administrative code numbers. It is laminated holographed plastic - like our drivers license. There is no question about the owner and there is no question about the horse.

It also gives a phone number to the FL dept of ag. Given it is an official identification card issued by the state of FL it is good enough for any state in the union for ID under federal law and the US constitution. I don't even think deputy Barney could get this screwed up.

On the other hand given some of the Coggins I have seen and what we used to have - before we went electronic - I can understand someone having issues. However, even those flimsily pieces of paper are official state documents and as such are binding and have to be honored by other states. Deputy Barney might not want to but when push comes to shove he has no choice.

Truman
