[RC] bad accident - Jonni

I had a mare years ago, do a nasty cut to the back of her knee. The vet not
only wanted stall rest, but she was to be stationary. No getting up or down
for the first couple weeks. I had a rather large stall, and cross tied her
in it, with food and water. Every other day, I'd pivot her around so she
faced the other direction, and the stall would air and dry out where she had
been standing. When she did the cut, I asked the vet how long until I could
ride her, and he said 6 months to a year, if ever. She healed fine, (ugly
scar) but went on to do every thing I wanted of her. Do not give up on Jack.
Stall rest is not that tough on them. If he is unhappy because he is alone,
see if you can get another horse, pony, or even goat to be nearby to keep
him company. You have a long road ahead, tending to this. And only time
will tell how well it will heal. But it is amazing what their bodies will
do to heal themselves, along with the loving care you will be giving him.
