Re: [RC] AHA - heidi

and
forget about the fact that 20-25 generations back something occurred
that we would not condone today?

Just to clarify a bit...

The four ancestors in question are O'Bajan V-6 (bay mare, foaled in 1904),
Hamdani Semri I-9 (bay stallion, foaled in 1905), O'Bajan 7 (chestnut
mare, foaled in 1907), and Kurdo III (foaled in 1902).

Of these, Kurdo III and O'Bajan 7 only have one non-Arabian line, at least
6 and maybe more generations back, to a TB mare named 30-Maria. There is
a possibility that we could already have Kurdo III descendants here
through the Duke of Veragua's horses (Spain), as his records were lost,
and he did have a few daughters of this stallion that he had acquired from
South America. These two ancestors come the closest to having their sole
non-Arab line WAAAY back as you suggest, and 30-Maria was not linebred in
their pedigrees.

But the other two are a different matter. O'Bajan V-6 and Hamdani Semri
I-9 do not even have a purebred Arab parent! Hamdani Semri I-9 does the
best--he has two Arab grandsires, and has some Arab breeding further back
in his granddams' pedigrees--he appears to be a shade over 5/8 Arabian.
O'Bajan V-6 only has one purebred grandparent--she also has an Arab great
grandparent and two Arab great-great grandparent through her other lines,
so she at best is about half-Arab. She has considerable Shagya ancestry.

Since the descendants of these horses are not available to us in
DataSource yet, it is impossible to see to what extent these SA ancestors
have been linebred--so there really is no telling the influence the
non-Arab ancestors have on the modern pedigrees. However, it could be
quite significant.
