Re: [RC] Rain in LA area - Truman Prevatt

Ah the wonder of the sand hills. During the fall hurricanes - even the one that stopped right over the top of my house for a few days to take a rest - we didn't have a spot of mud anywhere. Some places had new lakes - some of which are still there since springs are running now that haven't run in years - but no mud even on the bottoms of the new lakes. As soon as the sun came out we were on horseback surveying the downed trees in nice dry packed footing ;-) .

I sure hope it stops raining soon out there and you guys see some sun. When I left Western Kentucky I said "if I never see mud again - it will be too soon." I think there are still knee boots - that were sucked off of my feet - buried in the barn yard of the old homestead.

While living on the Palos Verdes Peninsula I cared for a multitude of barns not just my own. One perfectly dreary day (much like today) I was in the muck and mire herding an ancient mare from the corral to her barn. While slogging through ankle deep muck, that also happened to be the pee spot for this girl (in all types of weather) I slipped and landed face first in the disgusting mess. You want to talk about not quite knowing what to do? The owner was wheelchair bound and a dear friend, I went up to the house and straight to the shower. I went home in her husband's bathrobe. Just the sight of me for weeks after that would start her giggling uncontrollably. She only stopped when I threatened to stop coming to care for the horses.

Now that I live out in Riverside I'm most grateful for all the DG. We get a lot of water on top, but it isn't slippery muck for the most part.

I won't even tell all the stories of the 'blue goo' when I lived in Humboldt County (NorCal). That s@#t's wicked.
