Shouldn't hurt it anymore than horse sweat does.  : )  Wash on gentle, in a lingerie bag, mild soap, rinse well, block dry on a towel.  I also throw in some old barn towels so that the metal buckles aren't banging against the sides of the washer and they kind of help "scrub" things.
