[RC] Frog, The Horse That Knew No Master - Marinera

Those who loved "FROG, The Horse That Knew No Master" by Capt. S. P. Meek, might be interested in a letter I received from him in 1938.  I wrote him a fan letter and he replied to me:

"..........Years ago I rode a great deal and played quite a little polo, but in recent years my work has been such that I have found it impossible to do much of that sort. Frog was really a reminiscence of many years ago, a tale of things that happened in Panama in 1919 and 1920.  My dog books reflect a later period of my life, a period that is still going on. ........" and then he goes on about his future books.

I also once wrote Howard Brodie who did the charcoal sketches of race horses for the San Francisco Chronicle Sporting Green. I asked him to draw me a picture of Seabiscuit. He wrote back that I should be tending to my school studies and not thinking about race horses. And he did not send a picture.

I have his letter pasted in the front of my copy of the book. I also have one of his dog stories.
