[RC] synthetic vs steel horseshoes - Julie Pearsall

A question for those of you with more time in the saddle than I:
I am starting my 7 year-old mare this spring with long, slow rides. I have access to country roads (stone and tar, very bumpy, pebbly surface), dirt roads, and tractor paths in the surrounding fields. My mare has reasonably good hooves, though when left too long they will chip. I'd like to know if anyone has stroong feelings one way or another regarding which type of shoe to use, my main concern being that she not slip in the pavement as sustain a serious injury. I know that studs can be added to steel shoes to add traction. Again, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Julie and "Bucket"
