[RC] Puffy jaws/ update/Fri. even. - Laurie Durgin

My 4 yr old has it too, I washed 3 of the horses and went to groom him and noticed his jaws are puffy too, not as much as hers ,but similar, just less swollen than hers, as I was examing him, , mini donkey came by, then I remembered... about a month ago , the donkeys cheeks were swollen too!!-- He is so hairy it wasn't very noticeable. At the time he seemed ok, and I'd chalked it up as him maybe getting bumped by the bucket handles or something.
Daughter talked to her vet across town, and she said it may be strangles ,even though there has been no horse contact-- or it may be an allergy-- said just give bute and watch her--said nothing life threatening.
But after that I found my gelding too... and remembered the donkey... which seems to let out this particular haybale (they eat one a week)--- or allergy. My guess is some kind of virus...? Good thing is , my mare and the 4 year old, after her bath, danced around the grass paddock, like those Arabians at Liberty..... adding a race with the dance... the other two geldings and the donkey just ate and didn't give them much of a glance.
We do have migrating birds that come by and crows....so maybe ....?
Seems odd to have a virus with no one coming in or out, and I wear different footwear from house to barn.
