RE: [RC] What does everyone else do? - Ranelle Rubin

Title: Message
Had a great ride today at Folsom Lake..a girlfriend who had not ridden with me in ages rode my 17yr old semi-retired horse and I rode my new 5 yr old DR Thunderbask son..We are getting a storm tonight so it was definitely the calm before the storm..the lake was glass, the wind was calm, the ponies were truckin on down the trail...the wildflowers were amazing, the monarch butterflies were abundant, the grass is greener this year than I can remember...

Hot toddies at the trailer after and all is well with my soul...

Like the song says, "I'm going to feed my soul where the pavement ends!"

Ahhhh..now it is time to pack for the mountains and do some skiing....

Subject: [RC] What does everyone else do?

Ok, what do those who don't have horses do for relaxation??  I took yesterday and today off work (woo hoo...playing hookey), and since it was pouring rain yesterday, took advantage of the lack of rain today and went riding.  Alpine was feeling GREAT, it was only about 45 degrees (in florida..in march. not normal), and it was dry.  I ended up doing somewhere over 20 miles in 4 hours.  Way more riding than what we've been doing since I've been trying to get the nag back into condition.  Apparently I'm doing something right, cause he had no concept of the word "slow" today, and was doing great.  He drank like a fish, ate when we stopped, and came back up to the barn still feeling great.  Best of all, he wasn't spooky!  I have figured out how to get speakers on my saddle, so now I have tunes while riding by myself.  Alpine gaits in perfect time to Simon and Garfunkles, "Maybelline/Kodachrome" song..  It's pretty funny !

Anyway, thought I'd share my wonderful ride today. If we keep up like this, I know we'll be ready for that first 50 in the fall....

Juli and Alpine (feeling fine, thank you)
