[RC] shoe life - Adam and Jannelle

I am wondering what kind of life people are getting out of steel shoes? I
ride on gravel logging roads, and lots of uphill and of course down hill.
I can only get about 150 miles out of the rear shoes on one of my mares.
She does a great job of getting her hind end under her on the down hills.
We had to add "heals" to her shoes last time because her hiind feet would
slide into her front feet when we were working the down hill. Right now
150 miles is ok, we only ride 1 or 2 days a week so by the end of 6 weeks
her shoes are worn out. During the spring and summer though I like to ride
more and in 3 or 4 eeks they are toast. The fronts do not wear as fast,
but would not last for a reset. By worn out I mean that the ressesed area
for the nails is worn flat and the nail heads are almost gone. My other
mare is about the same size and weight, but does not wear the back shoes as
fast. She can keep shoes for 200 miles or more and often they are not
toatly worn out when it is time to reshoe. She is not as good with her
back end under her on the down hills, we are working on that so she does
not pound her front to death on the down hill.

Thanks.
