Re: [RC] naming baby - Lysane Cree

The best way I think to name a baby (foal, that is) is
to see how it looks and especially its personality
when its born. I didn't name my Paint filly at birth,
but I ended up changing her name when I bought her as
a weanling. She was first registered as Holly Chex but
this name just did not speak to me and seemed blah,
boring. I kept thinking of something I had read too
about a good horse never had a bad name or something
like that (it was a saying referring to racehorses I
think). Anyway, we were talking about it at home and
considering her name change. The name Mae came up
because this elderly lady we knew had recently passed
away. Then my boyfriend said Mae West. It sounded good
but I didn't know much about Mae West, so I looked her
up on the internet. And her feisty attitude, liberal
views in a time where showing cleavage was practically
criminal, etc. reflected my filly's own dominant and
feisty personality. I wanted to add a little something
that reflected her pedigree and so I added Holliday at
the end of her name to reflect her sire's family line
(also a "Hollywood" type name that went well with Mae
West. And so she became Mae West Holliday (Mae for
short). Now the name means something to me.

Lysane
