Re: [RC] you know... -- A Ridecamp History Lesson... - Maryanne Stroud Gabbani

And as John noticed, this is such an international group as well. It's been a hoot having Destry around for a few months. If a skateboarding American kid from Idaho can plunk down into Cairo and find friends and a social life, there's certainly hope for the world.

Ridecamp has been an absolute haven for me over the years from about 1999 when I signed up and was trying to explain to a bunch of head-scratchers why anyone in their right mind would actually go riding for more than an hour at a time. Right now all my horses and all my friends' horses are on notice to stay sound til Steph and Jackie get here so we can have some really great rambles. I can't wait to get some people here who will be happy to drag some horses out for the whole bloody day. Have a long way to go on stamina for my local crew.

I wish I'd had your email send to me privately that kind of went "... What
do you think about...?" and I said "Wow! Can you DO that?" !!! And I signed
up.

I love Ridecamp and everything it's become... the simple questions asked
over and over, the tribal knowledge and scientific facts we share with the
best of intentions, turning the same information over in our minds looking
for new insights and fatal flaws... Challenging each other, calling each
other on egotistical statements and moments of stupidity... The
celebrations, the jokes, the whining... The hours of insight and
assistance, the community... We're a family.

You enhanced Endurance by imagining RideCamp and going for it.

That's got to feel good... It was a bold step... Thanks for being a great
steward!

Wow, that's amazing. And ten years later the topics still
haven't changed much :)

Linda - it's incredible that you found the original email! I
have met so many wonderful people, all around the world,
thanks largely to this Internet Endurance community. It is
quite amazing, a very special collection of very eccentric
horse people!

Indeed - Happy Birthday Ridecamp!

Steph

Ridecamp History Lesson...

Once upon a time a group of endurance riders used to lurk in
a Newsgroup space called Rec.Equestrian.

These endurance riders included Truman, myself, Karen
Sullivan (Sullys Maze), Linda Merims .... and other folks too.

On January 4th 1994, one of the endurance riders posted a
message that is summarized in the Google search engine like this:

Endurance Riders PLEASE READ THIS
... many endurance people are actually wired, and would
either be interested in or benefit from this resource. Please
respond one way or the other - you can email ...
