Re: [RC] kids at rides - DaNel Resha

I do not have children but I do feel that it is not the Ride Manager's responibility to provide Child Care.  In most states you have to have a certain number of Adults per Child for Child Care.  For all schools, Teachers and Substitute Teachers (I was one for a while) has to be Finger Printed and have a Background check.  I think Day Care Providers have the same done.  All the drop off Child Care places have this done also.

Ride Managers could get in lots of trouble if they provided "Child Care" without following many rules of Child Care Agencies.  I don't think it would be fair for a Ride manager to have to make sure there were enough adults to cover an unexpected number of childeren every ride.

I feel that it is the Parents responibility to make sure Child Care is provided for their own children.  Need it be they bring their own Baby Sitter to the ride.  I'm not sure of the Minimum Age of a Baby Sitter but I think it is 16.  (Please lets not start a topic on Baby Sitting ages)

I was thinking something similar.....that ride managers have enough to deal with just making certain that everything goes well for the riders on the trail and for the crews....markings, water, hay, light sticks, food, etc., etc., without having the extra responsibilities of finding daycare for children.  As a ride manager of 30 years' standing, I'd have to say "Sorry, no childcare available."  And someone's suggestion of $10/day makes that the cheapest childcare I've ever heard of.  Nowadays, babysitting goes for at LEAST $5/hour.

YIKES! I cannot imagine a ride manager having to get into the business of child care provision. There were many times over the years we simply could not go to a ride - or some other ELECTIVE activity because we had young children. Why don't some adult people who HAVE small children get the fact that havign children is firts of all a CHOICE and secondly, can often times mean that one must sacrifice their own "wants" and indeed at times, needs, in order to do right by their children? I am reminded of my friend who has a new employee who for whatever insane reason insists on bringing her new PUPPY to the OFFICE!! Pets, children, all choices - and they do not belong in certain venues - not running loose at ride camps and CERTAINLY not in the workplace. Wow -if I was a ride manager (Lord help me!) child care would be the LAST thing I would feel obligated to dealing with. Heck, I don't want families hanging around when I give lessons to small children!
