Re: [RC] cold weather - heidi

Whichbrings on another question:What is a normal body temp for a
horse-and how cold does it have to be,before you should bring them
inside?

PS to my previous answer...

One of the most important things in cold weather is a reliable water
source, preferably well above freezing. Horses drink a lot less when the
water is full of ice, and are more prone to impactions. We have most of
our herd on Brower automatic waterers that keep the water temp at about 50
degrees, regardless of the ambient temperature. They are worth their
weight in gold, as far as I'm concerned--and I can't wait until we are in
a position to get waterers for our stallion paddocks as well!

Also, a horse's normal body temp can range anywhere from about 98 up to
101.5 or so.

Heidi
