To train, its very easy. Just get your horse to accept wearing the collar, then snap a lead line to it and go out with him and let him walk around while you hold the line. Then, when he moves, hold the line, reward him for giving to the pressure. Then, let him drag the lead line and figure out how to not step on it. Or, if he does how to step off of it. Then let him drag around a longer line again while you hold it. and then unattached and dragging. The then attach it. Don't leave him alone with the set up. And, if you are unsure, put the line thru a garden hose. The longer the line, the less power he will have to pull the stake. Be sure the stake has nothing that can hurt him should he fall on it. And the closer to the ground its pounded in the better. The line is easy for the horse but difficult to set up in such a way as to give it access to enough grass, whereas the pin can be set in the middle of grass. Picket both. Or picket one and hobble the other, they will usually stay together. Take turns with each. Or tie one, hobble the other. If they are really bonded may not need to hobble the "loose" one. Never, or almost never, have more than one loose at the same time. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike Sherrell" <mike@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <PasoAficion2@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>; "Ridecamp (E-mail)" <Ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, December 15, 2004 4:01 PM Subject: [RC] OvernightHow best would one allow horses to graze overnight on the trail?
