The bigger the number the tighter the weave. Usually anything over a 1000 is 
really tough.OTOH -I have 2 600 denier sheets that are3 years or older that 
function as turnouts, they roll on our mud rocks and haven't had a tear 
yet.(now the lining is another story).
  I just bought a Landa 600 and my 3 year old  hasn't killed it yet.
