Fw: [RC] Off billets... why not?? - Dot Wiggins

If you have a cinch with a "buckle" on each side, why do you need to tie the
latigo? When you say western cinch, what do you mean? 3" rings with a
tounge? There are several ways to do these with out bulky knots.

What ever you decide to do, make absolutey sure both sides are the same.

My apologies, apparently I made it sound like I was using a traditional
Western
saddle. I'm not.

I am using a Marciante "Distance Rider" Endurance saddle. I'm not sure
what the
term is for the type of rigging, but this is what their site says:

*The rigging is attached directly to the tree in three places, across the
front,
middle, and to the rear for exceptional saddle stability and even pressure
displacement.
*The cinch is completely adjustable to the front and to the rear to fit
any
horse and any style of riding.
*The cinch ring is lowered and out of the way to prevent the cinch knot
from
hitting you in the knee. (Obviously they didn't lower it enough for ME.)

I'm using a Western cinch with elastic and a buckle at each end, along
with an
off-billet and a tie strap. Since this is my first saddle that didn't
have
English rigging I didn't know how else I could do it.

So what's the verdict, can I use an off billet instead of that tie strap?

Thanks,
