Nasty gray area of the law. If they have not
produced a weapon, you would be guilty of assault, unless you could convince a
jury that you truly were in fear of your life. Goetz did just that after
he shot the gang in the subway a number of years ago. If there was a
restraining order in place that would be a good piece of evidence that you were
in fear of your life...
