Re: [RC] RE:Starting an older horse - Paul Bendzunas

I bought and started my mare at 13. She was a seldome riden pleasure horse on the same farm for 10 years (trailered once, boy that was some training) Had a compleate pre-purchase done and the vet said she had the look and feal of a much younger horse. Started with 6 months of LSD before our first slow LD (ride time 5:58) This past year we did 8 rides, top 10 in 4 We were riding top ten at Biltmore when we crashed this past weekend. We went on for 9 miles after the fall but the vet said she could see she was a little off. (the vets are pull happy at Biltmore, it's tough there when it rains) Next year we move up to 50's. Her carear may not be as long as some because of her age but baring accedents I'm looking forward to riding her well into her 20's.
