Has anyone had their horse act this way?

Jennifer, the #1 cause of what you are seeing is a dirty/irritated sheath.
If that is the problem, it is not an emergency--but it should be seen to
as soon as is practicable.

Other things that could cause this sort of problem are bladder stones and
back pain.  (Bladder stones are not all that common; back pain is not
uncommon, but is less apt to be the cause than a dirty sheath.)  With
bladder stones, you may or may not see additional signs of discomfort--if
the horse is not acting colicky, again, they are not an emergency, but
should be seen to with reasonable promptness.  Back pain can also be ruled
in or out with a good physical.  But start with the sheath cleaning, since
that's the most likely.
