Re: [RC] How much land per horse in Michigan? - DaNel Resha

I personally have 5 acres with about a 3 acre pasture with only one horse.  We have talked about getting a second horse for my boyfriend.  I think we will be ok since the grass is thick and there is lots of it.  There is plenty of room for them to run and get lots of excercise.  I am in Tennessee and I only keep horses up if it is really extremely cold.

If you feed hay, you can "get by" with much less (and in Michigan, you
will have winter, so you WILL have to feed hay for at least a few months
of the year)--but keep in mind that horses also need room to move around
in order to stay healthy and sound. Even on dryland, one need not have a
barn and keep them "up"--one can feed hay in a large space just as easily
as in a small space. :-)
